When the body is in ‘stress mode’ the adrenal glands go into action and produce adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine which are known as the ‘flight or fight’ hormones. These hormones are very important because this flight or fight reaction can save our lives when we are in danger. However, the body doesn’t recognize the difference between being chased by a bear or being stressed because our lives are overwhelmed. When we are stressed out, these hormones start to become a big problem with our health and well being. Being in a heightened state of stress too often can cause these hormones to be churned out constantly and we are in danger of ‘burn out’ and we can and do, end up sick from it.
